Writing and Script Development

Originating, researching, developing, writing and devising scripts for stage and screen

Theatre

As a reader for The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, Ben is experienced at assessing and feeding back on scripts, with a strong understanding of what makes dramatic writing work for the stage.

He has worked with writers and performers to develop plays examining subjects that include: the division of India (Memories of Partition - Director and Dramaturg in association with The Royal Exchange Theatre), the conflict in Syria (Spring Reign - Originator, Producer, Director and Dramaturg of National Tour supported by The Lowry), a satirical take on how to become a better person (Real Life - Co-writer, Director and Producer in association with The Royal Exchange), and the centenary of the First World War (War Stories - Director, Dramaturg and Co-Producer of an International co-commission between You Are Here Festival and 24:7 Festival).

He has directed scratch nights of new work in development at Contact and worked with companies, artists and students to research, write and devise work in development with The Royal Exchange Theatre (Garth Williams - Bird of Paradise), The Lowry (The Last Resort - Week 53 Festival), HOME (Liz Richardson - Becoming), Jackson's Lane (Unhinged), UCLan (The Light Princess) and The University of Salford (#Handles).
